SharePoint Troubleshooting

While using the SharePoint technology, you may experience certain situations in which you may need assistance. The following are some quick solutions to help you troubleshoot the problem yourself.

Note: For more information and additional assistance, contact RTS Technical Support.

A small pop-window appears on the screen when I log in and out of the Governance Portal.

The pop-up window indicates that you have been auto logged on/out of the SharePoint server. Generally, this pop-up window minimizes automatically and closes within seconds. If the pop-up window does not close, you may need to modify the following Internet Explorer browser settings:

  1. Click the Tools menu in the Internet Explorer and select Internet Options.
  2. Click the General tab.
  3. Click Settings in the Tabs section. The Tabbed Browser Settings screen displays.
  4. Click the Always open pop-ups in a new window radio button in the "When a pop-up is encountered" section.
  5. Click OK.

When I click the Pop-Out button the Web Browser window closes.

While editing a SharePoint document in the Web browser, clicking the Pop-Out button closes the browser window. This is a known issue and will be resolved in a future release. For best results, we strongly recommend that you do not use the Pop-Out button.

The changes I make to the SharePoint attachment are not saved.

Either, access the SharePoint document via the Office web application and save your changes.

Or, Upload a New File Version Using SharePoint

A Pop-Up displays when I access a SharePoint attachment by double-clicking it. (For HTTPS Sites Only)

This pop-up displays once after every login only if you are using a secure HTTPS site.

The formatting changes when I copy and paste something in the Office web application.

The copy and paste behavior in an Office web application is different than in a native application. For more information, see the Copy and Paste in Office Web Applications link.

The keyboard shortcuts I normally use do not work in the Word web application.

The keyboard shortcuts that you use in the native Word application are different from the ones that you use in the Word web application. For a complete list of keyboard shortcuts, see the Keyboard Shortcuts in Word Web Application link.

Error: "The SharePoint document is locked for editing by another user".

The Windows SharePoint Services puts a write lock on the document on the server. You need to wait for 10 minutes before you can work again on the document. Alternatively, you can open the read-only copy, save it on your desktop, and upload the updated version after making changes to it. See the Document Locked for Editing link for more details.
